Installation Methods.
Our building stones can be installed using two primary methods, depending on the desired look and application.
Wet Lay (Mortar Joint)
This traditional installation method uses wet mortar applied between the stones, with the joints finished just below the face of the stone. For a more pronounced joint, the slush-and-brush technique spreads a wider mortar joint flush to the stone’s surface, then brushes it smooth for a uniform, classic appearance.
Dry Lay (Drystack)
The drystack method uses minimal mortar, placed primarily behind the stones with little to no visible joint on the face. This creates a clean, modern look that emphasizes the stone itself while maintaining proper structural support.

Don'ts
-
Assume all stones are the same thickness — variation up to 2 inches is normal
-
Use small stones for retaining applications
-
Leave excess mortar on stone — clean before it hardens
-
Roto-till compacted soil beneath stone installations
-
Use more than 1” of river sand as a base
Do's
-
Carefully order the correct amount of stone
-
We can hold extra pallets to avoid restocking and pickup fees
-
Opened or culled-through pallets cannot be returned
-
Mix stones throughout the project — don’t use all the best pieces first
-
Enjoy the process — stone projects can be fun and rewarding
